I'm Akshay Venkatesan — a finance professional and automation engineer based in Doha. I build Python, VBA and AI-powered tools that eliminate repetitive work for finance teams in insurance, reinsurance, and beyond.
Replace manual copy-paste workflows. I build Python pipelines that extract data from ERPs, intranet portals, PDFs and spreadsheets — clean it, transform it, and load it wherever you need it.
Management packs, KPI dashboards, and board-level reports that refresh at a click — not after three hours of manual work. Built in Excel, Power BI, or as standalone Python outputs.
Invoice processing, reconciliations, statement-of-account preparation, and regulatory submissions. If your team does it every month, there's likely a way to automate 80% of it.
Leverage LLMs to classify transactions, extract data from unstructured documents, write narrative commentary for reports, or build smart query interfaces for your finance data.
Niche expertise in technical accounting, treaty reconciliations (QS/XOL), bordereaux processing, and IFRS 17 reporting workflows. Few automation consultants understand this space — I do.
Complex spreadsheet engineering — nested logic, dynamic dashboards, one-click reporting, and robust macro suites. For teams not ready to move to Python but want to squeeze the maximum from Excel.

I started my career in Chennai specializing in statutory, tax, and internal control audits. I quickly became the 'go-to' person for building custom tools that accelerated workflows and eliminated monotony. From mastering Power Query and nested IF statements to developing VBA macros and complex reconciliation sheets, I found my niche in transforming manual processes into efficient, automated systems.
In 2019, I got an offer in Qatar to join Al Koot Insurance & Reinsurance — part of the QatarEnergy Group. I work in finance operations across a portfolio of reinsurers, credit control, technical accounting, treaty reconciliations, and finance closing processes. When VBA hit its ceiling on big datasets, I moved to Python.
Al Koot was migrating reporting software. During the transition, the entire medical invoicing cycle — from underwriting to ERP entry — was at risk of grinding to a halt. I built a fully automated pipeline handling every step: data extraction from underwriting systems, validation, transformation, and ERP injection. Zero manual intervention required.
Years of long-pending dues from treaties and local insurers were at risk of being written off. I built a tool to identify, collate, and organise proofs of each outstanding item — generating structured documentation that could be sent to counterparties for recovery. Result: over USD 2 million recovered before the write-off deadline.
Annual GST return preparation at the audit firm was a multi-day manual exercise prone to data entry errors. I built a VBA-powered tool that ingested raw accounting data, applied all GST rules, and produced audit-ready return schedules. Time to completion dropped 70% and data accuracy hit 99.99%.
Finance team members were spending hours each week logging into internal systems, running reports, downloading data, and formatting it for management. I wrote Python scripts using Selenium and Requests to automate the entire retrieval and formatting process — scheduled, hands-free, and delivered to the right inboxes.
We map out your most painful manual processes and agree on what to automate first and what success looks like.
I scope the build, estimate effort, and give you a fixed-price quote. No surprises, no scope creep.
I build the tool, test it against your real data, and iterate until it works exactly the way you need it to.
Clean documentation, a walkthrough session, and ongoing support so your team can run it independently.
Whether you have a specific process in mind or just a vague feeling that "there has to be a better way" — reach out. First conversation is always free. I work with finance teams across the Gulf, India, and beyond, fully remote.
